    Seeds to Success: Cabbage Cultures

    Cabbage is commonly grown across the globe, with over 150 countries growing some type of cultivar. From savoy to napa, cabbage is a diet staple for many cultures, with around 71 million tons being harvested each year. While there are many different ways to prepare cabbage, pickling seems to be a fan favorite—and everyone does this a little differently. During this lesson, students are invited to research and teach each other about a culturally specific way of preparing cabbage.

    This lesson is an exploration of how herbs can be used to transform ordinary kitchen staples like butter. Students are asked to create their own compound herbed butter and then use basic plating design concepts to plate "bread and butter" appetizers.

    Team Nutrition: Discover MyPlate Emergent Reader Series

    Discover MyPlate includes seven emergent readers featuring kindergarten-level sight words that help children build literacy skills while learning about the five food groups and MyPlate.  

    The Two Bite Club by Team Nutrition (2012)

    This educational storybook, available in English and in Spanish, was developed to introduce MyPlate to young children. Parents or caregivers read the book to children and encourage them to try foods from each food group by eating just two bites, just like the characters in the story. The back of the book contains a MyPlate coloring page, a blank certificate for the Two Bite Club, fun activity pages for kids, and tips for growing healthy eaters.
